Ice N’ Roses – Reinventing the Lenten Rose

Winter may be months away, but that won’t stop us from eagerly planning our cold season gardens. At the top of our wishlist this year is a fresh face on the botanical scene:  Ice N’ Roses – the newest member of the Helleborus Gold Collection® that’s taking the nation by storm.

38378_2After the long and thankless slog through our hottest summer yet, cold weather is not just a reprieve- it’s an intensely anticipated blessing. With winter comes holiday cheer, family gatherings, and presents. All of the overachievers out there have already completed their gift buying, but I’ve got some news that they might find unsettling: You left someone out.

Who did you leave off your list? Why, your garden of course! Don’t give your garden the cold shoulder this winter. Instead, show it some love by adding the amazing Ice N’ Roses hellebores to invigorate your terrain.

This Christmas rose is nothing short of inspiring. Members of the HGC® are held to extremely high standards with only about 1 out of 100,000 making the cut. That is why Ice N’ Roses sets the standard for true floral genius. This new variety is eager to please and simply overflows with bright plum red blooms that you have to see to believe. It rises only a foot off the ground but blooms with the ferocity of plants twice its size and spreads over time to give even more joy year after year. This floriferous perennial is a gift to any shade garden particularly because its wine-toned flowers add much needed color to otherwise drab areas. Falling in line with the Christmas theme of life everlasting this plant sports handsome foliage that is as evergreen and lovely as the traditional pines and firs in your home. Speaking of home, don’t you wish you could bring the beauty of the Lenten rose inside? Wish granted – those dark and robust stems were made for cutting and will  fit quite neatly into any waiting vase.

Honestly, Ice N’ Roses had us at hello, but its merits don’t stop at beauty. Beneath the attractive exterior beats the heart of a true survivor. This variety withstands weather extremes that would send others running – harsh heat and cold, drought, humidity to name a few. Worried about poor soil, diseases or bugs? Ice N’ Roses says “bring it on!” This Christmas rose is the perfect combination of durability and visual appeal. Whether you find yourself on the nice list or the not-so-nice list, one thing is certain: Ice N’ Roses is the Hellebore we all deserve.
